...wealth of material returning Coach Robinson should have little trouble in developing a team even stronger than this year's. Pollard stands out as the star of the 1916 eleven. Although inclined to be erratic, this player by his clever dodging running made himself the chief ground-gaining asset of the team this fall. With more experience the should develop into a phenomenal halfback. Besides Pollard there are such men as Purdy, Jemail, and Murphy in the backfield. These, with Sprague, Ward, and Wade, to bolster up the forwards, should produce a strong combination next year...
Berryman, the sensational Penn. State half-back, is given one position in the back-field, King, of Harvard, the second, and the third to Captain Mahan. This trio offers a fast running backfield of exceptional talent, including a strong line-plunger and clever defensive full-back, and two versatile, speedy half-backs, one of whom is undoubtedly the best all-around football man in the country. The line showed great improvement, and although the University was unable to push the ball over for a touchdown, Mahan's clever drop-kicking sufficed to defeat the Southerners by a 9 to 0 score. The Virginia men are to be remembered for their exceptionally sportsmanlike spirit, and it is hoped that their appearance on the Harvard schedule will become a fixture...
...play is really a group of three one-act pieces, with a prologue and an epilogue. It follows the fortunes of three children who have left home to pursue their individual fortunes, and is a clever portrayal of the powerful influence on them of their parents. The dialogue of the prologue takes the spectator directly to the scenes of the intervening acts, and the epilogue picks the action up exactly where the prologue leaves off. Though similar in construction, it is an entirely different type of play than the Craig Prize Plays of the last two years. "Believe Me, Xantippe...
