...Lohan teen comedy. "Rosalind Wiseman's theory is that if girls don't have a support structure, they take drugs and get date-raped," Fey says. "I left that out to get the PG-13." Mean Girls, which opens on Friday, April 30, may be more well intentioned than clever, but it does attempt something more complicated than any other comedy Lorne Michaels has produced. "On one level it's a high school picture," says Michaels. "But her sense is close to where John Hughes was in the '80s." The film explores the insecurities that make girls cruel...

...weeks ago, the Bush campaign launched a negative television ad that many Democratic consultants thought was pretty clever. It featured ancient, goofy Keystone Kops footage and suggested, not too subtly, that John Kerry was pretty goofy too: he supported a 50˘-a-gal. gas tax. Leave aside the fact that this was not quite accurate--Kerry's support for the tax was fleeting, theoretical and a decade past--the ad was sharp, different-looking, sort of humorous. The consultants assumed it would cut through the info- smog of political-message mongering, that it would make Kerry seem laughably...

...fact, there exist no licensed players for the Linux operating system, so while the three million Linux users can all play DVDs on their computer using a clever program called DeCSS (versions of which have been written that are small enough to fit neatly on the back of a business card), to do so is a violation of federal law. It’s equivalent to selling a book on the express (though not explicitly agreed upon) stipulation that a whole group of potential readers couldn’t break a seal put on chapter 10. There?...

...programs recently awoke my passion for trashy reality TV. As an aspiring entrepreneur I couldn’t help but watch Donald Trump’s “Apprentice,” pitting male brawn against the marketing power of female sexuality. For those clever enough to avoid such morally-debauched viewing, the show follows a simple pattern. Two teams fight to escape elimination by implementing successful business programs, whilst plugging one of Trump’s numerous business ventures. Put more simply, two teams utilize their female members’ attractiveness to sell products by placing them before...

...However clever he may be, Knoc-turn’al’s over-concern with West Coast pride may alienate rap fans in other regions. Knoc-turn’al focuses on appealing to a West Coast audience, especially on “Peepin Tom.” He invokes the prowess of NWA, Ice Cube, Tupac and E-40 among others to create this comical song. By weaving hints of these classic artists into his own songs, it becomes apparent that Knoc-turn’al revels in his local notoriety. His authentic California flavor makes...
