...wasn't exactly high drama, but it was fiendishly clever, in a hammy CBS sort of way. At a point in the show's life when it was clear the producers were going to have ride to the rescue of this version of Reality if they didn't want these seven slender TV-game-show contestants to start eating each other - or worse, the cameramen - they taunted them with pleasures of the tongue and teased out the greedy (Nick - could we stop feeding these people Doritos, please?), the foolish (Amber, falling for the glass-of-water "Mystery item...

...smart things to like about Blow. The soundtrack (including Cream’s “Strange Brew,” featuring Eric Clapton in his cocaine years, and the Rolling Stones’ “Can’t You Hear Me Knocking”) is clever enough to fuel the movie without overpowering it or being too obvious. The aforementioned editing and camera effects add to mood but aren’t overly gimmicky. The ending, featuring a wizened, incarcerated Jung, is a heartbreaker...

...concerned, the fundamental unit of Shaughnessy’s work is the momentarily prickly idea, rather than voice, lines, words, sound, or syntax. She jumps from catchy notion to catchy notion, however banal, and those notions are all the reader can hear. It is not necessary to find the clever spots or dig them up as we contemplate what we enjoy; instead, those spots attack us, offering up all the subtlety and pleasure of a bad trombonist. If it seems like the other aspects of her work (the quirky formalism, for instance, which seems to exist merely as pretext) suffer...

...captain Chris Clever began his season in record-setting fashion with a throw of 70.32 meters in the javelin. Clever's throw, well past the NCAA provisional qualifying mark of 67.30 meters, was the fifth-best in the country this season. Clever last competed at the 2000 Olympic Trials where he threw 65.76 meters. He is the two-time defending Heptagonal champion in the event and the school record holder...

...basic idea is pretty clever. The Facemail people have taken biologically based imaging--the same technology that creates models of human organs for surgeons to practice on--and used it to create digital faces. Facemail faces are lifelike, in a Max Headroom-ish kind of way, and they simulate emotions based on the emoticons--for example, :-)--that you put in your text. Type in :-X, and Rachel blows a kiss. Type in I-P, and she looks disgusted. The voice reading the e-mail is standard-issue IBM ViaVoice text-to-speech...
