Playwright Clifford (Golden Boy) Odets, on his return to Manhattan after five years in gilded Hollywood, told readers of the New York Times why he was back: ". . . Mozart: Quartet in 6 Major, K.387 (Griller String Quartet, English Decca, 8 sides). One of Mozart's greatest; the performance lacks the fire to make it great. Recording: good. Concerto in A Major, K.488 (Clifford Curzon, pianist, with the National Symphony Orchestra, Boyd Neel conducting; English Decca, 6 sides). Another great work, played by one of Britain's best pianists. In this dull, muffled recording, however, it sounds as if his piano were out in the wings...
