Probably the biggest whopper is the film's climax, which has gritty little Wiley taking on august Harvard in a nationally broadcasted debate. In reality, the biggest name Wiley argued against was USC, which isn't bad, but doesn't quite reverberate with the same kind of class and caste issues that a contest with The Crimson does. In reality, I'm also inclined to doubt that the Wiley Wildcats always got to argue in the affirmative for Civil Disobedience and against Segregated Education as they do here. If memory serves, debaters in the past often had to snore their...

...sleeps in the bathtub, with his dog). So now he's Jonas Salk, and Jesus too, ready to give his life so that others may live again. It's in the last half-hour that I Am Legend imports new elements that both propel the story to its explosive climax and just aren't as compelling as the day-in-the-life story that preceded it. The notion the movie floats, of an uninfected colony north of the city, is literally too Utopian to seem either plausible or attractive to a hardened case like Neville. Smith has inhabited the character...

...Oprah's status as a consumer guide. She even joked that she knew endorsing him was not the same as endorsing a new refrigerator. At the same time, neither would Oprah's role as a cultural arbiter be diminished by her foray into politics. When her speech reached its climax, the touchstone was not the words of Martin Luther King Jr. (though he was mentioned), but a novel: The Autobiography of Miss Jane Pittman. The slave Jane Pittman, Oprah said, looks for the one who might free her for years, asking, "are you the one?" Oprah then told the crowd...

...struck four times from long distance, scoring 15 points after the break. Housman pulled Harvard within one, 52-51, with a three pointer and then again, 54-53, after sinking two from the line. But at the 13:10 mark, a dagger from Lowe catalyzed the tear that would climax in a 10-point lead for the Terriers.“That hurt us in the past, that hurt us at Providence, that hurt us here tonight,” Amaker said. “I’m hopeful that at some point we’ll be stronger...

...publishing Irving’s story. It serves as the most exciting and well-acted scene of the film. Disappointingly, she gives in to her bosses’ wishes and refrains from being the strong figure that the film desperately needs. From the beginning, the movie builds towards a climax that, if successful, might have redeemed at least part of the mess preceding it. The much-awaited culmination never comes. All we’re left with is Malley’s student staring blankly at the screen, realizing (finally!) that he needs to take action and help change society...
