...This Planet," resembles previous films featuring anti-nuclear activist Caldicott, presenting an emotional plea to end the suicidal arms race. Comparable films, such as "Seven Minutes to Midnight," have been shown to Justice officials numerous times before. But perhaps this time they were offended by the inclusion of a clip from "Jap Zero," a film in which Reagan, as a combat flyer, asks, "How soon do I get a chance to knock one of them down...

TIME's economists expect that prices may heat up slightly as the recovery proceeds, but they foresee no new burst of inflation. For 1983 as a whole, they predict that consumer prices will rise at a modest 4.6% clip. One reason for this optimism is that wage demands, the central driving force of inflation, have cooled considerably. Wage and benefit gains slowed in the final quarter of 1982 to an annual rate of 4.7%, down from 9.6% in 1981. ...that neither Greek pan pipes nor Elizabethan sack buts could ever carry a really good Broadway tune. Richard Rodgers' score is overflowing with delightful melodies that are by turn jaunty and sweet. Harnessed to Lorenz Hart' witty and graceful lyrics, they pull the show along at an exhilarating clip, and in between numbers, George Abbott's book provides just the right mix of Shakespearean vaudeville and vaudevillian Shakespeare. Installing a phone that has been bought is easy, provided that the residence has previously been wired. New phones have simple clip plugs that can be adapted to older existing outlets with an easy-to-use converter. Buyers who ask Ma Bell to make the hookup, however, can be charged up to $40 an hour. Some phones now being offered for sale are cheaply assembled and may last only about two years...

...time, the U.S. was hardly less murderous than it is today. In 1933 there were 9.7 homicides per 100,000 Americans, which is just shy of the 1981 figure. The murder rate began a steady decline in 1934, but judges and juries meted out death sentences at a ferocious clip for the rest of the '30s. As many as 200 people a year were legally executed, more than ever before or since in the U.S. During the '30s, and even through the '50s, executions were so routine that they merited at most a paragraph...
