Harvard's Freshman crew is expected to win the first race of the day in the Regatta. The crew has been rowing well since a week before the men left Cambridge. Bacon at stroke is a reliable man and can row a fairly fast clip when necessary. Moreover, the Harvard Freshmen are a heavier and a smoother rewing crew than the Yale 1910 boat. They are not as strong as either the 1908 or the 1909 Freshman crews, but row together excellently...
...half-mile, which was covered in good time. Then the stroke was lowered until the end of the second mile, where the Freshman eight was waiting off the Navy Yard. Starting on even terms the 1910 boat took about a length on their racing start, and at a fast clip had a quarter of a length of open water at the 2 1-2 mile flag. This lead was maintained with slight variations until the crews passed the 3 1-2 mile post. Both rowed hard, making a very pretty race. Entering the last half-mile, Farley...
YALE CREW QUARTERS, GALES FERRY, CT., June 10, 1907.--This morning the university eight-oared crew was sent over the upper half-mile of the course at a racing clip. Although the men showed good form, the time was not quite satisfactory. In the four-oar, Griswold and Robbins were interchanged, the former going in at stroke, and the latter being moved to No. 2. Hunt was given a place in the freshman eight, and the two substitutes, Hyde and Brown, were dismissed...
...work of the crews during the past week has been very satisfactory. All the boats have improved rapidly, and the races this afternoon promise to be very close. The general tendencies to wash out and clip the stroke at the finish are much less noticeable. All the men have been reporting regularly and the coaches have had a better opportunity to get the men swinging together. The Randolph and Westmorly crews have been doing promising work and should make a good showing...
...there has been a general improvement. Up to this time the second crew, composed of last year's Freshman eight, has shown the better form. The men are swinging fairly well together but are not getting enough power from their leg drive. Farley's boat has a tendency to clip the stroke at the finish and several of the men are not catching the water quick enough. Yesterday, the two crews rowed upstream almost to the Brighton bridge and back to the University Boat House in easy stretches. Toward the latter part of next week, there will be a race...
