Although it rained all the forenoon, the Harvard nine decided to play their scheduled game with the University of Pennsylvania. The game was close, but this was due chiefly to the condition of the grounds. A large audience was present and did its best to help along Pennsylvania, cheering all the errors of the Harvards. The decisions of the umpire, a member of the University, were not wholly in favor of Harvard. On three occasions Harvard put men out at the plate, but the umpire declared them safe.
