...with this game the team will play only two games a week, having now played the greater part of the schedule. Four men of last year's Bowdoin team are playing this spring. Thus far the team has been fairly successful, though it has been defeated in two very close games with Dartmouth, by scores of 10 to 9 and 5 to 4. In the first of these games the Bowdoin team made nine hits against Glaze, the same number as did the Harvard team on May 4. This would seem to indicate something more than average batting ability...
...Second nine will play Phillips Exeter Academy at Exeter this afternoon at 3 o'clock. Last year Exeter defeated the Second nine by the score of 5 to 4, and the game today will undoubtedly be close, but the Second nine should win if Hammond pitches as well as he did in the Andover game. Exeter has this spring been batting strongly, but is weak is fielding and base-running. The Second nine has held but one practice since the Groton game on Saturday, but in that showed some improvement in batting...
Baseball followed and several strong nines found occupation on the various diamonds. The scheduled game between the Phi Beta Kappas and the Sports was very close until the pitcher of the Sports weakened, allowing the Phi Betas to win by the score...
Although defeated twice this season in close games by Yale, once by the University of Virginia and once by Brown, the Pennsylvania team is a strong one, and will doubtless make the game today a very hard contest for the University nine. Last Saturday Pennsylvania defeated Princeton by a score of 7 to 3 in a twelve inning game, and in this game as well as previous ones showed not only that the team is strong in batting and fielding, but that it has two excellent pitchers in Devlin and Groves...
...Second nine will play Groton School at Groton, this afternoon at 2 o'clock. A close game is not expected, as the Groton team, though strong in fielding, is weak the batting and team work, and has lost most of the games played this spring. The Second nine during the past few days, has improved in both batting and fielding, but has fallen off noticeably in ability to bunt, and in the practice game played with the Freshmen yesterday their base-running was slow and careless...
