...Dennis Clough in the role of the Compte Vriaac shows that he knew what a very indifferent Count would do to a Marquise who jilted him. It is about these two that the story is woven. Eighteen years before the opening of the play, the Marquise left Vriaac with an infant daughter, for no other 0reason except that the Count had never asked her to marry him.
