Green Manure & Rabbits. Soybeans grow well anywhere corn and cotton grow, so the U.S. corn and cotton belts are the U.S. soybean belt (see map, p. 40). In crop rotation they fit neatly into the place of oats, making a four-year cycle of corn, soybeans, wheat, clover. They are an ideal catch crop where early seedings of other crops have failed and will grow in the 100 to 120 days between a late spring harvest and a fall planting. They can be planted any time from corn-planting time (about April 15 on) to midsummer, a great convenience...
This was the man who stood last week on his ancestral acres in Carroll County. In his sun-faded blue workshirt and khaki trousers, his feet planted firmly in the manure-padded earth of his own barnyard, he looked out across the clover field in which hogs rooted and snuffled, across to the yellow sheen of his ripe wheat, on to the horizon. Some, who should have known Douglas Aircraft and the Air Corps better, said she'd never get into the air, she was too heavy...

More surprising was their discovery that "if barley plants are exposed to radio-nitrogen, a small quantity of labeled nitrogen compounds are formed in the tissues of the plants." This may well show, says Hamilton, that leguminous plants (clover, peas, etc.) are not unique in their power to fix atmospheric nitrogen...
...raised from $50,000,000); the second raised the crop-loan rate from last year's 75% to 85% of parity.* The parity-payment bill guarantees farmers a return at least as big as 1909-14; if prices go above parity, the farmers are in clover. The crop-loan bill permits loans to be made on a fixed valuation, so that if farm prices fall below that valuation, the farmer's crop goes into the Government's surplus bins, and the Government takes the loss, while market prices are kept at an artificial level. If farm prices...
