Maybe, just maybe, some of this year's Fishbowlers will be lucky enough to find the contentment that Janice and Stan now share. They met through Mensa and married. "I often had to hide my intelligence with men," says Janice, who is an employee-relations specialist and part-time clown. "With Stan, I can be myself...

...Isaak formed a band and started playing in Bay Area clubs, eventually attracting an ardent following that included Bruce Springsteen and Rickie Lee Jones. Another early fan was director Jonathan Demme, who cast Isaak in cameo bits in his films Married to the Mob (Remember the fast-food clown who tried to rub out Tony the Tiger?) and Silence of the Lambs (as a SWAT team member). He had a few lines of dialogue in David Lynch's Twin Peaks: Fire Walk with Me, but his biggest break came last year, when director Bernardo Bertolucci invited him to play...

...brighter note are Jacob Broder as Costard and Francesca Delbanco as Boyet, the Princess' chamberlain. Costard is a classic Shakespearean clown who counteracts the pretentious nobility by his own plain speaking. Broder's enthusiasm is infectious and he gets more laughs than anyone else in the show. Broder even pulls off a rather contrived time warp joke that could easily have flopped. Boyet is one of the few mature characters in the play and Uphoff (who doubles as her own costume designer) stresses this by contrasting Boyet's formal suits with the other women's hippie attire. Delbanco does...
