Captain Ritchie and coach W. H. Murphy issued a call for baseball men in the middle of January. Since that time about sixty candidates have undergone the weeding out process. Practice was begun and continued for six weeks in a new temporary cage on Franklin Field, and the men practiced out of doors for the first time last week. There are now about twenty-five men playing and from this number will be chosen the regular 'varsity team and the reserves. Three regular players of last year's team have failed to return; they are Blakeley (capt.), third base; Voight...
...rowing on the upper Schuylkill and Captain Howell's list comprises twenty-nine men. The 'varsity crews, three in number, are stroked respectively by Captain Howell and Hall and Ruegenberg of last year's crew. It is true that the Weld has an inadequate supply of eight oared barges, but the purpose of the coaching committee is to have the Weld candidates do practically...
...down on Tuesday for the first time. Thirty-two men have been left upon the squad, eight of whom are trying for the position of pitcher. Batting and fielding practice is given the men daily in the cage. Jayne '97, pitcher on last year's team, is coaching the candidates for the position of pitcher, and Bradley '97, is expected later in the season to coach the fielders. Contrary to the custom of late years no professional coach will be engaged this spring. The schedule for the coming season has been completed, and shows a list of twenty-six games...
