Although Mr. Bingham's statement Monday announcing the appointment of Charles J. Whiteside to the Harvard crew coaching staff deliberately omitted mention of the exact post Mr. Whiteside would hold upon his arrival in Cambridge, dispatches from Syracuse indicate that he is coming under the definite understanding that he is to be head coach.
