Audacious Initiatives. One artist led to another. Poet-Painter André Verdet ordered a sport coat of grey velvet curtain material. Picasso took one look at Verdet's coat and was off to see the tailor. The two men hit it off instantly, and after Sapone had cooked Picasso some Neapolitan spaghetti, the artist gave him three lithographs and an order to "sew something...

...penalties for breaking the rules can be serious. Even minor infractions provoke them. Goffman has described the restrictions imposed on suitable behavior in the rain. A man in a trench-coat will naturally pass muster. So will one who is coatless, as long as he suggests by his deportment-hunched shoulders, an impromptu newspaper umbrella-that he is alive to his predicament. A close moving shot along the floor after the corpses are removed reveals some loose change which fell out of the mother's house coat as she died--truly a good touch, as is Bobby's compulsive neatness: a bit of calculated direction about which I would be more sanguine were Bogdanovich's own camera style less neat and precise. These are better than all the Baby Ruths, charge accounts, and Pepsi bottles which appear...

...dialogue. One speaker, lamenting the wanton slaying of alligators, apologized profusely for the belt he was wearing. Alligator, of course. Equally well made was a point about the dangers that the fur trade poses to the world's great cats; on view among the ladies were eight leopard coats, two ocelot coats, a cheetah suit and a tiger jacket with matching handbag. Their hostess, Princess Grace of Monaco, even showed up splendidly attired in a coat made of wild mink with matching turban...
