Died. Gifford Alexander Cochran, 50, sportsman, onetime president of Alexander Smith & Sons, Yonkers, N. Y. carpet manufacturers; of hardening of the arteries, heart disease and acute alcoholism; in Manhattan. Retired from business, he was famed as the owner of many a great horse. In 1925 his Coventry and Flying Ebony (Earl Sande up) won two great races, the Preakness and the Kentucky Derby.
