Died. Herbert L. Bridgman, 80, "Ulysses of journalists"; on board the U. S. Training Ship Newport. He was business manager of the Brooklyn Standard Union, and helped organize Peary's expedition to the Pole. To him the explorer sent the famed code cable "Sun" (meaning "We have reached the world's end"). In 1894, he led the relief expedition after Peary when he was lost in the Arctic.
