Surrounded by Admirals, Secretaries, experts both naval and diplomatic, for hours last week the President considered tonnages, gun sizes, British statements of naval requirements, U. S. counter-requirements. Then, while the White House, the State Department, the Navy Department still boiled with naval and financial statistics, long code messages were sent to Ambassador Dawes in London and presently it was definitely known that Britain's white-headed Prime Minister James Ramsay MacDonald would sail for the U. What had happened evidently was that in Denver some person or persons unknown, having knowledge of the confidential code through which bankers transfer money, had written six coded wires, had fraudulently added the six Denver signatures. Wrote Prohibitor Campbell: "If the police make raids and the several magistrates and district attorneys conscientiously do their duty, the speakeasies in New York will rapidly fade away...
Laws. To draft a uniform aviation code to be adopted by all States, government representatives, legislators, lawyers and flyers met at Mineola, L. I., last week. Their preliminary recommendations included punishments for flying while drunk, reckless stunting, flying so low as to endanger persons on the ground, making too much noise with the motor, landing on and damaging private property. During the past year state legislatures entertained 250 heterogeneous bills on aviation. Of these 106 were enacted...
