Even the most tweedy alum Crimson old codger that Stephen Herzenberg could create in his article (see Crimson, (Oct. 24) couldn't have failed to notice that the heavyweight eight did work last Sunday. A fast boat should not pose any conceptual difficulties for any loyal Harvard alum, fictional or otherwise. Penultimate limon or not, that mixed eight functioned as one smooth unit of eight athletes rowing their guts out together. Determination, pain, (and possibly sheer stupidity) know no sexual boundaries. Crew may also be more egalitarian than most sports in that efficiency, technical smoothness, and mental toughness can count...
...stand-up comic; Little Sherman, a perverse little boy; and Walt Buzzy, a gay director. Grandpa Funk, based on an old wino Williams once saw in San Francisco, always appears at the end of the show. Indeed, for the visitors he greets, the mundane is exorcised for a few hours by a free-form fantasia of mummers, monsters and midgets, pirouetting puppets and Barnum spoofery. All this is encased in The World of Sid & Marty Krofft, a spectacular amusement center that opened last week in Atlanta...
...converted into a contest of egos for their elders. The movie is calculated and a little cute. It relies too heavily on the amusement value of hearing little kids cuss like Marines. Yet The Bad News Bears is also tough-minded. It does not turn Buttermaker into a lovable codger, and the kids do not become last-minute victors...
