This picture of a class in the Suvorov Military Academy at Kalinin illustrates dominant features of Soviet education since Marshal Stalin abolished coeduca tion (TIME, Aug. 1 6). It is one of nine cadet schools named for the 18th century Russian Field Marshal Alexander Vasilievich Suvorov.
