The hard-drinking raconteur became a legend in Cojimar, where, in exchange for cash or rum, he regaled tourists with embellished reminiscences of Papa H., whose fishing boat he skippered for some 20 years...

Fuentes met Hemingway in 1928, and helmed the author's yacht Pilar for nearly three decades.
