...Dominican Republic, which rely on the Spanish for command and control, decided to bug out as well. Thailand threatened to withdraw its aid workers if attacked, and even faithful Australia is down to 850 of the 2,000 troops it originally shipped over last year. Secretary of State Colin Powell called leaders of roughly half the 34 coalition countries to try to prevent further defections...
...accurate as well. Bush endures countless military briefings about the war to come. He pays assiduous attention to speech texts and rehearsals. But there are practically no meetings--or questions from the President--about what will happen in Iraq after the initial military success. It's an actor's feast, of course, with 36 roles shared among 11 players in this production, although the best one is saved for Davis, who co-directs with Benjamin Winspear...
...letter addressed to Secretary of State Colin Powell and Homeland Security Secretary Tom Ridge, Summers urged immediate revisions of the student visa application process to avert the detrimental decline in foreign graduate students across the country. The situation has become so acute that Harvard and other institutions can no longer attract adequate numbers of foreign graduate applicants...
