...What to expect: ? Regime Change (at the State Department) The resignation of Secretary of State Colin Powell?and his replacement by National Security Adviser Condoleezza Rice?marks the beginning of a changing of the guard at Foggy Bottom. The President wants a diplomatic team that focuses on international-threat reduction a little more and on second-guessing the White House a whole lot less. With Dr. Condi (a Bush confidant?indeed, a member of his mind-meld club) at the helm and a new crew with less of a striped-pants attitude, look for North Korea to become a more...

...voice musters nothing more than a gentle swoop. Despite Butler's muted performance, Schumacher's kinetic camera work and some fine supporting turns could help make the film a minor Christmas hit. But Schumacher must have been banking on his unknowns to deliver revelatory, headline-making performances, just as Colin Farrell did in Phone Booth. Alas, they don't, and without big names or great word-of-mouth, this movie musical could be a hard sell. Better hope those theater fans like popcorn...

Bridget (Renee Zellweger) is back and this time she’s counting carbs, not calories. There are some other surface changes in the life of the world’s favorite singleton: she’s shacked up with the dreamy Darcy (Colin Firth) and is no longer, well, single. But the script is furnished with the same jokes from the first movie, except the second time the “watch Bridget fall flat on her face in a very short skirt” routine is less vaudeville and more ritual humiliation. The movie seems to perpetuate, rather...
