...nightmare scenario, Tehran would respond to a U.S. strike on Iran's nuclear program by lobbing missiles at cities in Gulf states like Qatar that are closely allied with Washington; in another, a terrorist group such as al-Qaeda would target Dubai, scaring off the tourists and white-collar expats helping to drive its heady growth...

...draw the line at flip-flops. the prevailing dress code at my office and those of many white collar workers in the U.S. could be defined as business casual--if any of us knew what the heck that meant. My employee handbook offers no guidelines, so I'm left with my own interpretation: no nylons (like 39% of American women, I haven't worn a pair in more than a year), but then again, no flip-flops (because I respect my colleagues enough to shield them from my unsightly toes...

...other words, blue-collar can become green. It's no surprise that one of the biggest supporters of the Apollo Alliance is the United Steelworkers Alliance - labor leaders see green jobs as a way to fight outsourcing and keep manufacturing alive in America. And there is a strong political component to green-collar jobs, which is why presidential candidates love talking about them so much. Environmentalism has usually been the reserve of the elite - but we'll never have the power to tackle global warming unless we create a coalition that extends well beyond traditional white-collar greens. Touting green...
