That Denver's Rocky Mountain News, which has stanchly supported the Governor since news of the microphone got out, felt justified in printing the transcript in full was a fair indication of its contents. What Colorado has been waiting for for six months turned out to be not a juicy scandal but a feeble anticlimax. Garbled and often wholly unintelligible, the transcript gave Coloradans an interesting insight into the informality with which its elected officials discharge their public duties. So far as private misconduct was concerned, the spiciest bit was a paragraph or two that indicated that Lobbyist Dickerson...

...that he was glad the records were out at last. Said he: "It was a cowardly trick and a plot designed to injure me." Lawyer Ellis, Reporter Sweet and Detective Gilmore announced that District Attorney Carroll had censored the records before making them public but, having caused scores of Colorado politicians to shiver in their boots for half-a-year, the vigilantes slyly added: "No one has ever bothered to ask but as a matter of fact we never contended the microphone records, outside of disclosing the duplicity of politicians and their faithlessness, contained evidence of felonies...

Hawaii and Puerto Rico, although voteless, have long contended that they are entitled to equal consideration with Louisiana, Michigan, Colorado or any other State. Delegates from Honolulu are forever pointing out that Hawaii pays more income tax than any of 16 States. But last week U. S. citizens in those islands feared that the House of Representatives regarded them as mere colonies. Whereas New York or Georgia might refine all the sugar they could get their hands on, the House restricted Hawaiian refiners to 3%, Puerto Rico refiners to 16% of their own sugar which they produce for consumption...

...radium discovered in 1898 by Pierre and Marie Curie was laboriously extracted from a radioactive mineral called pitchblende, found in what is now Czechoslovakia. For years those deposits remained the only source of the world supply. Then a radium-bearing ore, carnotite, was discovered in Utah and Colorado. This was a low-grade ore but with the help of the U. S. Bureau of Mines and several corporations, the U. S. became the biggest radium-producing country, at one time turning out 80% of world production. Between 1912 and 1922 the U. S. produced more than 170 grams. In those...

...Municipal Art Commission stuck to its guns for a while in the face of clamor by the trustees, the committee and Mayor Benjamin F. Stapleton that Denver should have Ronnebeck or nothing. Leader of the Commission was fiftyish Anne Evans, weathered, spirited daughter of the first territorial governor of Colorado, patron of the summer theatre festival at Central City (TIME, July 26). Less exacting Commissioners began to waver when local ar- chitects declared that the Zorach memorial would not fit into Denver's $1,000,000 Civic Center. Then Mayor Stapleton dismissed two old members of the Commission, appointed...
