Ingrid Duran, the wife of accused gunman Francisco Robert Duran , says her husband had problems with the U.S. government but never would have tried to kill President Clinton. "To take another life is against his principles," she told The Colorado Springs Gazette Telegraph in an interview published today. Duran, who's being held without bail on charges of firing 27 bullets at the White House Saturday, may soon be charged with plotting assassination, based on statements from a former co-worker and papers found in his truck. Meanwhile, a judge found Duran competent to stand trial and ordered him held without...

...Duran's truck that prosecutors say raises questions about his sanity. (Unofficially, they've said, it's a will.) Also in the truck, parked near the White House: a shotgun, an arsenal of ammunition, a gun magazine, a machete, sleeping bags and a stuffed animal. The 26-year-old Colorado man, who'll face another hearing Wednesday to determine whether he's competent to stand trial, disappeared Sept. 30. Federal investigators say he telephoned his wife once, saying he was never coming back and might be dead by a family member's birthday -- about...
