...vital to the sequence as Lindsay Crouse's chorcography, or the Charlie Mingus jazz piece she and Wakeen Ray-Riv dance to. As the space their bodies move in changes from blue to orange to hot pink, they become silhouettes of motion in a pulsating frame of sound and color; when the frame constricts to two thin streams of light, they move in a separate frenzy against the darkness. The integration is so smooth that "mixed-media" seems the only natural Medium, and we wonder how we ever enjoyed dance by itself...

...phenomenon of color intensification under LSD is well known, and Painter Heinz Trökes experienced it intensely. "Whenever I frame the color white," he said, "the color starts to burn. My God, this white becomes the whitest white of my life. Now a bird ap pears in its midst. But then it begins to look like a volcano, ejecting bright colors." Perhaps significantly, the abstractionists in the experiment showed far more resistance to mind expansion. Action Painter K. H. Sonderborg displayed few discernible effects, though he reported seeing thousands of strange little animal figures that he found impossible...

...Dali once remarked, "I consider myself a very mediocre painter [but] I'm a better painter than my contemporaries." John Tenniel isn't a contemporary, but the original illustrator of Alice still seems best. Although Dali's Mock Turtle is stupendous, most of the twelve lavish color illustrations and one original color etching are more evocative of Dali than Alice...
