Very soon now the cool campus scene may hot up again. Ron Ziegler, Richard Nixon's press secretary, is going on the college lecture circuit. Federal funds for his $42,500 salary will stop in February, and Ziegler has signed up with the Colston Leigh lecture bureau for a tour that may prove to be a dry run for Nixon's own emergence from seclusion. Ziegler has not yet said what he will talk about, but critics of his past performances cannot wait to watch him taking questions from the floor...
...assassination. Though not a radical, he enjoyed the endorsement of black and white community organizers alike. Indeed, the behavior of the SLA in killing Foster and kidnaping Hearst led at least one black spokesman in California to question whether the SLA was not simply exploiting DeFreeze as a figurehead. Colston Westbrook, 36, a black instructor in linguistics at Berkeley, met DeFreeze while visiting California's Vacaville prison to take part in the activities of the Black Cultural Association. The S.L.A. partly evolved from the group. Westbrook recalls De-Freeze as "a cat submerged in divine blackness and interested in black problems." But now, Westbrook...
...says the narrator, over a shot of an English manor house. "They do things differently there." Immediately the film plunges into a splendid reconstruction of the Edwardian era, all etiquette and innuendo, cascading lace and carriages, mirrors and staircases (the last two, familiar obsessions from other Losey films). Leo Colston (Dominic Guard) is a twelve-year-old schoolboy come to pass a luxurious summer holiday with a wealthy classmate. Leo is more than a little out of place. He swelters in his woolen Norfolk jacket until his friend's elder sister Marian (Julie Christie) volunteers to take him into...
