...should not be inferred, however, that the CRIMSON is entirely out of sympathy with this time-honored complaint. There have been instances where it seemed as though we were losing by not having certain of the men recognized as authorities give courses accessible to the ordinary undergraduate. This comment is more in the nature of forwarding a policy of appreciation and optimism rather than of disparagement and worry. He has had a hard lot who must be continually sermonizing on what ought to be done and what has been done that shouldn't have been done, so when the chance...

...event on the program gives rise to some comment. The first entertainment proposed is a "dinner to the University eleven if the season's results are sufficiently fortunate to justify it." This is a strong implication that the season's work is worthy of reward only if the team beats Yale and that a dinner will be given to the team only under those conditions. Criticism is sometimes made of the coaching policy of a team in sacrificing anything during the season to gain victory in the final game and claiming the season to be successful or unsuccessful according...

...this competition last year was not productive of the desired results. It is not to be inferred that the singing during the season was a failure because of the fact that no song of lasting qualities was produced. The old songs were used again acceptably, and in fact the comment was not infrequently heard that the more the old songs were used to the exclusion of the new the better the singers as well as the listeners were satisfied. But this does not contradict the presumption that had a new song been written last year with the necessary vitality...

This being our first opportunity to comment on the most welcome victories which fell to our lot in the last week of June, the CRIMSON offers a much belated congratulation to the crew and to the baseball team. They deserve all the credit they received for winning two memorable victories of which every Harvard man was proud...
