The fifth heat was a walk-over for Talcott of Cornell as Roscoe of Stevens was the only other competitor. In order to reduce the field to eight men for the semifinals, two heats for second men were run. The first was won by Welch with Piper second. Roscoe withdrew from the other heat and Robbins ran through the distance at his leisure...
