Jake never develops as a character and never moves beyond his infuriating inferiority complex. The highlight of his portion of the film comes when he gets drunk with his brother, a sequence that is funny but lacks any dramatic punch. The terms of the PETA prize state that competitors must create chicken meat that “has a taste and texture indistinguishable from real chicken flesh to non-meat-eaters and meat-eaters alike.” However, recreating tissue as complex as muscle is no simple task.
