Last week the L.B.J. completed the list with its first serious riot. The trouble was set off by a fistfight between two prisoners. When guards went in to break it up, the prisoners crashed out into the central compound containing the mess hall, administration buildings and the solitary-confinement cells (which are converted shipping containers). Czechoslovak scientists have now developed a technique for using hormone-like chemicals to attack one species of bug at a time. Working with DMF, a synthesized chemical compound that acts like a juvenile hormone, a Prague team under Biologist Karel Sláma discovered that it took just one microgram (a millionth of a gram) to sterilize for life a female linden-bug.
