...Transportation Security Administration screeners. They are the burger-flippers of the entire security system, and the chances of even the best of them visually identifying a liquid explosive in an innocuous bottle are slim - that's why Israel's Ben Gurion airport has a laboratory in the basement to conduct instant tests of liquids found on suspect passengers. If the U.S. system lacks sufficient technology to detect liquid explosives, and if it relies on the TSA screeners to ID possible terrorists, it is, at best, a wire mesh fence...
...Israel currently has 10,000 troops operating in southern Lebanon, but they're not digging in. Instead, they're attacking Hizballah village strongholds, maintaining mobility instead of establishing fixed positions. To make matters worse, that shrinking market is also sought by a growing number of competitors: discounters, Chinese imports and independent...
...find it hard to understand how civilized countries in the 21st century can conduct or condone such massive collective punishment of the Lebanese people. The force being applied by Israel is grossly disproportionate to the threat it faces. To see that, one need only compare casualty figures of the two countries. As one who still believes in international law, I can only hope that those who have perpetuated or assisted in this tragedy will be held accountable...
