Transfer those opposites to a man, and there's old Bill-- good as gold, one day a week. Like the Rev. Jesse Jackson, like Harlem's former Congressman, the Rev. ...Democrats were sometimes over the top, but it did the job. There was the tip of the hat to the black Democratic mayor of Philly and the black-Hispanic couple (twofer!) of West Chester, Pa. (Why all the fawning over the Keystone State?) He saluted the ailing Democratic congressman Joe Moakley. He quoted JFK and threw a bouquet to self-styled deal maker, Louisiana senator John Breaux. Jesse Jackson personally appealed to Clinton to commute the sentence of Melvin Reynolds, a former Illinois Congressman serving seven years for corruption and for having sex with an underage campaign worker. Other Jackson associates who received clemency include John H. Bustamante, 70, a former adviser who pleaded guilty to fraud in 1993, and Dorothy Rivers, a former Operation PUSH official serving six years for embezzling more than a million dollars in federal aid for homeless children. She will be freed from prison next year...
