Hitchcock's career began in the late '70s with the Soft Boys, who broke up in 1980. He spent the '80s and early '90s with the Egyptians, steadily building a huge underground of connisseur-grade fans who came to shows as much for his surreal, almost Dadaist rants between songs as for the music.
