The sugary tunes do become saccharine sometimes, as if they were a parody of pop history from the Byrds to R.E.M. After a while, the constant tambourine shaking and acoustic guitar strumming become grating. "A Fire," for example, relies heavily on pop love song conventions--the chorus dreamily addresses a lost lover over a slow, swaying beat and swirling chord progression...

...perfectly sad attempt to tie these songs to the actual movie, clips of quotes from Bean are peppered between tracks. There really is no musical reason for these connectors, but they certainly contribute to the overall confusion. If nothing else, Bean: The Album will maintain a constant transition from puzzlement to doubling over in short bouts of laughter. But the investment of time and mental energy really isn't worth the minimal entertainment that Bean's soundtrack offers...

Almost all of the experimental techniques in the film end up drawing the audience's attention towards the phoniness not of the health care system, but of the movie itself. Suspension of disbelief fades, leaving the constant awareness that these characters are just actors walking around a set, reading lines off cue cards...
