Today Piper's paintings contain nearly equal parts of the abstract crystal and the amorphous potato: precise landscapes splashed with blocks of colors that happen to interest him. When Piper finds a combination he likes, he uses it again & again. He continues to look for new combinations and new techniques. His spare time lately has been spent with wax-crayon colors and in floating paint on water in a bathtub, then lifting off the bright swirling patterns on to a piece of paper. He will have a Manhattan show next year, and is "fiddling around" between. themes...
...cabbage is the source of the first hangover cure that Clayton and Langdon actually recommend: sauerkraut juice. "Every icebox," they say, "should have this Universal." They also recommend "the Spirit of '76" (spirits of ammonia), and an international array of pick-me-ups. These usually contain at least one hair of the dog in the form of Pernod, curacao, cognac, absinthe, Fernet Branca, or just plain white wine...

Clearly, however, the program has taught these interested something concrete it has shown that high school and college curricula contain so much waste and overlapping material that a good student can condense four years into two and still be academically successful...
