Rosovsky concludes the report by raising issues for prolonged Faculty discussion about the future of GSAS. In view of the tight job market, Rosovsky suggests the Faculty consider whether graduate education should contain preparation for non-academic jobs, or whether the University needs to convince potential employers that scholarly learning is applicable to a large number of jobs...
...Crimson has done and apparently will continue to, is clearly inconsistent. By saying that ads for the magazine itself are somehow less sexist than ads seeking models is to make a distinction without a difference. By publishing future advertisements for Playboy--especially for the one that will contain the photo layout of Ivy League women--The Crimson will inevitably take an active role in supporting the magazine--a role at least as active as it would have by publishing the ad refused last week...
Snyder and his co-workers discovered in 1973 that the nerves of the brain and spinal cord contain specific sites to which opiates must bind in order to produce their effect. Morphine and similar drugs fit into these so-called opiate receptors like a key into a lock. Once in the lock, the drugs are able to dampen pain signals to the brain. Snyder then went on to map the distribution of the receptors in the brain. Kosterlitz and Hughes expanded on the research. They wondered why the body should evolve receptors for foreign narcotics; perhaps the body produced...

Last week Jorge Diaz Serrano, head of Pemex, the government oil monopoly, announced the discovery of a new field that he says may contain up to 100 billion bbl.; that would be more than half as much as Saudi Arabia's proven reserves, as well as the biggest single accumulation of oil in the Western Hemisphere. Although Mexico's proven reserves are still formally pegged at a modest 20 billion bbl., officials...
