Ann Sheridan, born Clara Lou Sheridan in Dallas, Tex. 24 years ago, left college for Hollywood when she won a Paramount "Search for Beauty" contest in her neighborhood in 1933. After two years on the Paramount payroll, during which she failed to set any celluloid on fire, she was dropped, spent a year looking for a job. Warner Bros, put her under contract in 1936. Last year the Warners, envious with the rest of Hollywood of Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer's glamorous Hedy Lamarr, started circulating glamorous photographs of Ann Sheridan, her red hair...

Although many of these figures are inordinately difficult to learn, most are very dull to watch. The second half of a figure-skating contest is free skating, where invention counts as well as execution. Theoretically unlimited, in practice most free-skating repertories, including Sonja Henie's, are limited by the fact that competitive figure skaters ordinarily perfect no more feats than they need to eke out four minutes (five minutes for men) in competition...

Career (RKO Radio) launches those of Alice Eden and John Archer, victors in a nationwide radio contest for new talent conducted by oldtime Producer Jesse Lasky on his Gateway to Hollywood radio hour. To the call for "young men not less than five feet nine inches tall with physical characteristics similar to those of Douglas Fairbanks Jr., Tyrone Power, Errol Flynn, etc." and for similar feminine paragons, Gateway to Hollywood got 40,000 applicants, 8,000 of whom were auditioned in 23 U. Unfortunately for Alice Eden and John Archer, who acquit themselves well in it, the story of Career suggests that a Gateway to Hollywood contest for screenwriters might also be a good idea...
