The former exhibits an energy and vividness in direct contrast with its author's other sketch in the number, "Old Sam," being as it is a portrayal of the thoughts and sufferings of a disappointed lover about to commit suicide. Garrison '88, which has just appeared, "Ballads of Harvard and Other Verses." Both the "Ballads" and "Other Verses" possess what the verse of no other Harvard rhymer since Ned Martin, author of "The Little Brother of the Rich," has been able to claim, originality and finish. In the picture St. Cristopher represents our forefathers who were the fostering guardians of the University, while the Christ-child is Learning and Intelligence. The great human strength of the man's figure is in strong contrast with the divine fervor that illumines his face; and together they make a fine setting for the simple purity and divine innocence of the child.
