...Recapping the Debates I agree with columnist Joe Klein that John Kerry won the first debate on "the appearance of strength" [Oct. 11]. I was pleased with the Senator's demeanor and his direct and calm responses, in contrast to President Bush's smirks, scowls and useless sloganeering. Which candidate is better equipped to deal with such threats?
