...others in the running-John Lindsay, Los Angeles Mayor Sam Yorty and Republican Representative Paul McCloskey-only Yorty has received a number of substantial individual gifts. His main supporter is his campaign manager, Sam Bretzfield, a Los Angeles garment manufacturer. Charles Luckman, the architectural mogul, is another big contributor. Lindsay, on the other hand, is running out of pocket and wooing New York moneyed liberal Republicans; he has deserted their party, but Lindsay aides are still counting on their support...
Casey's fans dismiss the fact that he stepped into his job with little Wall Street experience. He was a heavy contributor to the Republican National Committee and a law partner of its former chairman, Leonard Hall, before the President picked him for the SEC chairmanship last winter. The appointment ran into trouble in the Senate Banking Committee, where Casey was grilled at length about his role in three civil lawsuits between 1962 and 1965, two of which involved securities. He was finally approved by the Senate in March...
...foreign policy than domestic politics. Stanley Hoffman, an expert on international relations who has not been hesitant to offer ideas on how to get out of Vietnam, says he hasn't given the subject much thought. Paul A. The Schuetz was done last Christmas at the Busch-Reisinger Museum and is a worthwhile, moving work. Since this composer is a favorite of John Ferris's, the performance will likely be quite good. The same prediction holds for the two-day Schuetz Festival in the spring...
Although racism on the part of the white majority is exaggerated, (in the words of Brendon Sexton, a contributor to The White Majority, "Big factories are probably the most integrated work-places in society"), it is still present. But it is present as a result of social-economic conditions. Scapegoating gives a perverted sense of status and meaning to the lives of many steel-workers. In addition, the often tenuous economic position of the white majority is thought to be threatened by black advances. It is easier to direct alienation against what seems to be a visible threat than...
