...American approach to saving its economy is radical compared to that of almost any other nation and that is not going to change. No other country can marshal the resources that the U.S. government can because of its unprecedented ability to raise money. And, the American presidency and control of both houses of the legislature are held by the same political party...

...being pushed hardest by those who would profit financially from it - not just technology companies but also large hospitals and medical practices hoping to improve billing and control internal costs. With a digital chart, every test, diagnosis and treatment a doctor orders is instantly passed along to the billing side: Why give away that Ace bandage for free? This could make the billing bureaucracy more efficient. But communication the other way, from billing to medical, would take place too. And this is more insidious. ...Heart, Maria opens with the perfect song for her aesthetic. "Oh My God" is basically just a few frantic chords and two repeated phrases--"Find a cure/Find a cure for my life" in the verse and "Oh my God" in the chorus. One lyric is a prayer for control; the other a realization that she has none, and Maria plays the former like someone meditating before a hurricane and the latter like the hurricane itself. "Leaving California" is sweeter, and sounds it; built on quaintly out-of-tune acoustic guitars and twinkling piano, it's a credible country waltz. "Sixteen, Fifteen, Fourteen" grooves like Led Zeppelin's "When the Levee Breaks" even as it tells a folktale of a doomed girl...

...signing ceremony in the White House East Room. Two years later, it was Baucus who helped Republicans pass a pharmaceutical-industry-friendly Medicare prescription-drug bill, even as his party's congressional leadership was shut out of the process. It is understandable, then, that when Democrats took back control of the White House, many in the party were more than a little dismayed about Baucus' position at the helm of the Senate Finance Committee - the legislative linchpin for just about everything that Barack Obama hopes to accomplish, from rewriting the tax code to curbing global warming...
