Usage:

...crack the computer code governing Internal Revenue Service audits. Since prisoners must file tax returns on any outside income, some saw a golden opportunity. Knowing how to hoodwink the computer, they loaded their returns with all kinds of bogus claims for refunds, with little fear of being audited. One convict was finally caught. Last week he went on trial for receiving $20,000 in illegal refunds. Others are sure to follow him to the dock, since the total rip-off could range anywhere from $150,000 to $6 million. Just Joy Riding. Bill Harris did argue his cause to the jury in a closing statement, however, saying the Government is "trying to convict us for our beliefs." For his part, Weinglass contended that the Government had not proved its case. The Harrises, he said, were not guilty of the shooting since Patty was not authorized to use guns by the S.L.A. He also claimed that taking the four vans and cars was more like joy riding than stealing, and that the two owners had been taken along without intent to kidnap. This last argument, especially, was fairly flimsy stuff...

...executions are immediately in prospect, but the Governors of Florida, Georgia and Texas are all known to favor capital punishment. Jack Greenberg, director-counsel of the N.A.A.C.P.
