...chick comedy. He plays Dan Burns, an advice columnist and widowed father of three girls, who instantly falls for the lovely Marie (Juliet Binoche) when they meet at a bookstore. Darn the luck, she turns out to be the new girlfriend of Dan's younger brother Mitch (Dane Cook, who's already had his own failed fall comedy, Good Luck Chuck). A mainstream comedy with an indie vibe, Dan hopes to be the film that gets couples back in the theater for something they'd both respond...
LIBERATED HOUSEWIVES adored her. Hungry husbands, presumably, couldn't stand her. Peg Bracken, a former advertising copywriter, parlayed her disdain for wifely chores into the snarky best-selling 1960 recipe manual The I Hate to Cook Book, a guide for quick, easy meals. It became a staple of baby boomers' kitchens, and she followed up with popular sequels about housekeeping and etiquette. Not to say there’s anything wrong with a little cook-up, but I don’t have nearly enough fingers to count all the visual and verbal references to the drug made throughout. What with all the subliminal-message-sending quick-cuts used by director Hype Williams, it’s hard not to come away from the video feeling...
Most of all, the Rockies’ success creates the unbeatably marketable David and Goliath scenario. As Dane Cook would say: this team stands “A MILE HIGH.” With the steroid controversy more present than ever in the Commissioner’s Office and in the minds of fans, America is happy to root for the scrappy underdogs against the big, bad, money-laden sluggers...
