While it reflects the band's growth as they have learned to combine their unconventional instruments, Greatest Hits is surprisingly cohesive. Unfortunately, "Communication" (from 1997's Left of Cool), featuring Dave Matthews' vocals, is an obvious attempt to recruit Matthews' fans, and doesn't fit with this otherwise purely instrumental album. Nonetheless, the album's two previously unreleased tracks, "Shocktime" and "Road House Blues," are melodic and Wooten's wizardry in the two alone make the album worth the money...
...making fun of rap, or even of people who shop at Old Navy. He knows all about this, and he isn't afraid to mimic it. And he hopes all the "Hollywood freaks," "b-boys," girls who "look so Israeli" and whom he saw "at JC Penney" are as cool as he is. Knowing if someone sports a Crimson Key T-shirt or sings with the sexiness of an Opportune, we can easily group them into superficial categories of cool or uncool. Are they worthy of a nod, a quick hello or an invite to the next HPC cocktail party? The coolness factor is everywhere, and I am guilty of it as well. But we have to step back. If true friendship is based solely upon academic or extracurricular pursuits...
...couple years ago, a friend told Jason St. John '00 that "it would be cool if you had one of those Sherlock Holmes pipes." St. John now smokes them a couple times a month, always with friends. He's never encountered a negative reaction to his habit, and, he says, "I've even been complimented and thanked while smoking on Weeks Bridge...
