...movies it is particularly understated and director David Goyer (the writer of the first two films) keeps Blade going at a quick, clipped pace. It is a product of its genre, the comic-book movie, and in that sense it accomplishes its goals. It is action-packed. It involves copious explanations of weapon use. And it features a truly haunting sequence set at a vampire blood-bank that finally has the guts to honestly address America’s burgeoning homeless problem...
...with seemingly little to no percussion dividing it up (let alone any trace of the pervasive drum torrents of the previous track) and no clear song structure at all, strikes the listener as specifically designed for one in a meditative or transcendent state, or someone who has recently consumed copious amounts of psychotropic substances that would allow them to get to the bottom of what exactly the Boredoms are trying to say with this song. I guess the traditional adage is appropriate here, that “you can’t expect transparency from a band whose last album...
...vocalists Carolyn Mark and Kelly Hogan—take on several different styles in this remarkably diverse collection. Nay, I know that section is usually deadening...
...book with a $50 price tag. Like its predecessor, The Megalithic European is an immensely practical - as long as it's not in your rucksack - gazetteer of more than 300 sites stretching from northern Denmark to Malta, from Crete to Portugal. Entries are sprinkled with 800 photographs, copious illustrations and maps, along with local lore and diary entries from his visits. The book opens with a series of essays in which Cope sifts through his fascinations with the culture and religions of the Ancients, in search of "our universal drive to ... start building these monuments to whatever god people believed...
