While Congress was having its holiday rest last week. Parliament in musical Austria busied itself with musical copyrights, particularly as they affected the waltzes of the late Johann Strauss. Two years ago the copyright protecting Strauss's music was extended because his widow depended on the royalties. Outwardly Hooey resembles Ballyhoo so closely, particularly in its cover of red, yellow, blue & black squares and a bold black-&-white drawing, that Publisher Delacorte began to look up the copyright laws. Inspection of Hooey's contents revealed touches of bawdry, sexy double-entendres, shady epigrams, scatological jokes and the like which immediately reminded knowing readers of Captain Billy's Whiz Batig, Jim Jam Jems, Smokehouse Monthly. ...unsuccessful 10^ confession magazine patterned closely after Macfadden's successful 25^ True Story. Macfadden sued. When the fight was at its hot test Publisher Delacorte heard that Publisher Macfadden was plotting to rush into circulation a magazine called Hullabaloo in order to wrest from Delacorte (by publication) the copyright to the title. The suit was settled out of court last week with Publisher Delacorte withdrawing My Story. Ostensibly, hostilities were over; but to make sure, Publisher Delacorte released Hullabaloo earlier than he had planned.
