A scientist at Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center in New York has discovered that correctly timed x-rays in the right dosage can allow severed spinal cords to partially heal, and can restore some use to paralyzed limbs. When the spinal cord is severed the limbs are paralyzed and the injury does not heal. As a journalist, I admired the scope and detail of the piece and the skillful way Chris' accident, therapy and campaign for spinal-cord research were interwoven with the personal aspects of his life and thoughts.
