...DIED. Cornelia Otis Skinner, 78, gifted monologist, actress and humorist; of a stroke; in New York City. Cornelia was weaned on her actor father's renditions of Shakespeare, and made her Broadway debut with him in 1921. Too tall and gawky to play ingenues, she built her stage career slowly, tirelessly touring the U.S. heartlands and Britain in monodramas she wrote and staged herself. This leads to a second directionality in the show: the company sought to direct us emotionally in a way that might lead towards some sense of emotional growth of character and even...
...Cornelia Ravenal's Out of the Reach of Children attempts to draw us back to those last wonderful days when we were lords of creation, when we were high school seniors, and then, more ambitiously, tries to prepare us for the big bad world of shattered high school dreams. Its occasionally inspired script, the generally excellent performances and the cast's awesome energy level paper over the flaws that occasionally obscure Ravenal's views of times past and future...
